There are two ways to file for an uncontested divorce. You may elect to hire an attorney to prepare and file your paperwork. If you do not wish to hire an attorney to both prepare and file your paperwork, you may elect to do the filing yourself. The New York State Court website offers a divorce packet to provide individuals with the forms necessary to complete their filing. In New York there is a residency requirement to file for divorce so you will also have to determine whether you meet those requirements before filing.
